Getting To Know Bishop David Merrell

Today we're going to meet Bishop David Merrell, bishop of the Pleasant Ridge Ward!

How did you find Jesus in your life? 

I found Him through the testimony of parents and leaders when I was young. I found Him further through making covenants, such as baptism and my endowment. More importantly I continue to find Him through daily scripture study and prayer and by looking daily for His hand and influence in my life. From the simple to grand, he is literally in everything.

How did you meet your wife?

I met Rachel on a blind date in northern Virginia. That was one of the best days of my life. Grateful for friends and my brother for taking the chance to set us up.

What General Conference talk has been on your mind lately and why? 

Elder Haynie's talk on "A Living Prophet for the Latter Days." Following the prophet, apostles and other general leaders of the church is vital to keeping us safe in today’s world.

What is your go-to ice cream flavor and why? 

Mint chocolate Chip. There's simply not a better flavor for me. Makes me happy every time.

How many children do you have? 

Five children - 3 Boys and 2 Girls (boy, girl, girl, boy, boy).

Where else have you lived and how long have you lived in North Carolina? 

I grew up in Suffolk, Virginia, served a mission in Ontario Canada, spent time in Provo Utah for school and moved to Greensboro for training in 2012. My wife and I loved it so much we've decided to make Greensboro home.
